Dig out your activity journal! (if you've lost yours, buy a new one - make sure it is LINIERT with KORREKTURRAND)
We have been talking about Addiction and Dependence. Respond to ONE of the following in your activity journal. You should write a thoughtful, well-structured entry of about 150-200 words (no fewer than 150 words, no more than 250)
1) Watch this video http://www.drugfreeworld.org/real-life-stories/alcohol.html (we watched it last week in class).
In your journal, you may write a SUMMARY of the video: Remember to answer the questions Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?
* outline why people start drinking
* explain the warning signs of alcohol dependence
* describe some of the consequences of alcohol addiction
* list ways people try to kick their alcohol habit.
OR
you may write about YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE with alcohol.
* Outline your drinking habits (when did you have your first drink? how often do you drink alcohol? what do you drink? how much do you drink? when do you drink? with whom do you drink? why do you drink?
* Describe some of the things you or your friends have done while drinking (do you sometimes drink too much alcohol? have you ever done something you are ashamed of? have you ever passed out from drinking too much alcohol? has someone done something to you when you were drunk? do you know anyone who has been caught drinking and driving?)
* Analyse the drinking habits of people in Austria based on your own experience. Do you think alcoholism is a problem in Austria? Why or why not?
OR
2) you can comment on the case of hazing by alcohol (see video at the link: http://abcnews.go.com/US/lsu-police-charge-10-people-death-fraternity-pledge/story?id=50413609) If you choose this option,
* summarize what happened to Maxwell Gruwer
* describe the knock-on effect his death has for his family, the boys in his fraternity, and the LSU community (read the follow up story here: http://www.nola.com/education/index.ssf/2017/10/lsu_reinstates_alcohol_ban_on.html)
* discuss whether this type of tragedy could happen in Austria
