9C - Preparation for Monday, January 15

Since we clearly won't get anything of substance done this week, let's talk about current events.  These are the topics you should be prepared to discuss!  If you have other suggestions, leave them in the comments!

Donald Trump refers to African nations as "shithole" countries - https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/trumps-shithole-moment-is-his-ugliest-yet-w515404
Questions to consider:  What does it mean to be president?  Is Donald Trump a good president? Can he win back the respect of the American people and the world? How do we know this isn't "fake news"?

Logan Paul posts a video from Japan's suicide forest - http://ennsvalleyenglish.blogspot.co.at/2018/01/the-logan-paul-controversy.html
Questions to consider:  What role does personal responsibility play in social media? How has this episode affected Logan Paul's popularity?  Do you think what Logan Paul did was wrong? Do you think his apologies were sincere? What do you think about his "punishment"?  Do you think he can ever recover from this scandal?

Talking About the Prom:
Be able to talk about your prom experience thus far and answer the questions below

Be able to explain why “Game of Engineers” is a good catch phrase for the HTL
Describe in detail:
- your responsibilty for Maturaball
- the preparations for the Maturaball (publicity, magazine, sponsorship, Polonaise, variety show, decorations, catering, dignitaries)

- the biggest challenge for you personally
- the biggest challenge for the class
- how the Maturaball preparation has affected your routine
- the importance of the Maturaball for the HTL Trieben and for the community

And be able to answer these questions:
- What do you think will be the biggest success at the Maturaball this year?
- How much money do you think you will raise?
- What will you do with the money you earn?

- Do you have any tips for the 4th form?

Ask Dr. Sandrock questions so you know how Austrian Maturaball is similar and different from American "prom."
