COLLECT ACTIVITY JOURNALS
GOAL: WHAT IS A SUMMARY?
TASK 1:
a) In your book, turn to page 58. Read the article "Sports Technology - better, stronger, faster"
b) After you have read the article, fill in exercise 3 on page 59 with words or phrases from the text on page 58.
c) If you finish early, write the summary in your exercise book.
d) When you have finished, take turns reading through the summary with a partner.
TASK 2:
Listening strategies: RULE #1 - DO NOT TALK DURING THE LISTENINGS
a) build your expectations (what do you know about the topic "performance enhancing drugs"? what vocabulary do you think you'll need?
b) read through the task on page 59, exercise 5. This will help you build your expectations further.
c) listening #1: Listen for GIST (what kind of a listening is it? what is the main message?)
d) listening #2: Listen for DETAILS (who? what? where? when? why? how?)
e) finish exercise 5 based on the listening (match the begnnings of the sentences to the ends of the sentences)
HW:
1) Read the article on page 60-61 (An American Dream) - note the vocabulary for Old Cars on page 61
2) Do exercise 1 - multiple choice reading comprehension (Leseverständnis) on page 62 (the answers are in the text on pages 60-61.
3) Do exercise 2 on pages 62-63 (vocabulary)
4) Do exercise 3 on page 63 (more vocabulary)
