Here is the suggested layout:

4C - Preparation for Monday, March 5

For Monday, March 5,

1) read the article on page 160 of Best Shots 2 ("Do violent movies make teens aggressive?) and answer the questions on page 160-161.

2) think of questions to ask about teen violence in America (you might want to start with the Parkland, Florida school shooting on February 14, 2018)

4C - FIRST ACTIVITY JOURNAL ENTRY

Time to break out your English Activity Journal!! (Schulheft Quart - liniert, mit Korrekturrand!)

You will write a review of the ENGLISH version of one of your favorite films. Use the example on page 165 of Best Shots 2 as a model (incorporate phrases from page 166 to get a really good mark!).  Write about 200-250 words in your Activity Journal.  Make sure you write IN PARAGRAPHS, using proper spelling, capitalization, punctuation and grammar.

1) Watch one of your favorite films in English.  It should be a film you have seen many times in German, so you know the plot and dialogue.  Feel free to use English subtitles (not German!)

2) In your review, you should indicate when the film was made.  Then describe the main characters, the setting, and outline the plot (NO SPOILERS!).

3) After you have described the film you should write a) what you liked about it and b) what you didn't like about it. (you can certainly include language here!)

4)  Would you recommend this film for English students? Why or why not? Focus here on the language.

You will turn in your first activity journal with TWO entries on Wednesday, March 14.

1C - FIRST ACTIVITY JOURNAL

For your first activity journal entry, write about your favorite sport in English  (NOT football/soccer).  Try to use vocabulary that we learned in class. Use proper paragraphs, spelling, capitalization, punctuation and grammar.  Write about 100-120 words.

In your entry you should:

* describe your favourite sport (What kind of sport is it?  What equipment do you need?  What is the object of this sport?)
* state why you enjoy your favourite sport
* tell people what they should do if they want to play your favorite sport

Example (do NOT copy the example):

My favorite sport is soccer.  Soccer is a ball sport.  You can play soccer all-year round.  It can be played outdoors in summer and indoors in winter.  Soccer is a team sport. The object of the game is to score more goals than your opponents.

I enjoy playing soccer because you can have good competitions with your friends.  The only equipment you need to play soccer is a soccer ball and a good pair of sneakers. But you need to practice, because it takes a lot of skill to control the ball with your feet.

If you want to play on a team, find out if your hometown has a soccer club.

113 words

N.B.  DO NOT COPY TEXT FROM THE INTERNET.

HEADING: The Project Partner (What company or organization did you work with? Where are they located? What is their mission? Who was the person you worked most closely with?)

Guest Post: Ways to improve your English!

A month ago, I had to write the English SA, sorry to say but my result was a five. Read this blog entry if you have some troubles of learning English. Maybe I could help you a little bit.

When Prof. Sandrock handed out my grade of the English SA, I was a little bit unhappy, but I haven´t had so much time for preparation. I woke up and studied almost everyday in my winter break because English will become a big part of life in my near future.

The time for the matura exam comes close so I made a decision to improve my English day by day at home to reach the B2 level and to get better grades. It´s hard but everything is possible. “Never give up, everything is possible if you really want to get successful.”

Dr. Sandrock gave me a tip to watch some Ted talks videos, of course I watched some of them, but I also decided to make some exercises with some apps with my I Pad.

Now I´m practising my English with some apps which are based on grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking and reading. Last day I tested some apps from the AppStore, including “Gymglish”, “Learn English”, “English tests” or “Learning English with words” and “Duolingo”. All of these apps are a little bit different because Gymglish and English Tests, provide the full supply of learning English, but after a ten-day trial you have to pay.

What else? I give you a little review of Gymglish. Sorry to say that Gymglish only offers ten lessons and after your free trial you have to pay monthly. I completed the free lessons very fast in only three days, because I really want to learn English. Today I could say that I improved my English a little bit and I´m feeling better. At the end of your lessons you will get an overview, which gives you your actually English level. That´s awesome! Your online teacher at Gymglish tell you something about your strength and your mistakes, so this teacher gives you tips to get a better English. Mistakes which you have made all the time during the lessons will be repeated by the online teacher.

On the one hand you can say that some apps like Gymglish could upgrade your English very quickly, but on the other hand it could be expensive over the year. For an account on English for a year you must pay approximately 250 € to earn new lessons.

The next app focused on listening, named “learning English”. This app offers you a few amounts of listening, you can also decide if the listening should be easy or hard.

“English tests” gives you some grammar sections, which prepare you for instance for the Cambridge certificate.

Finally I also got an app which is titled “English learning with words” because the application of vocabulary would be important and will also help for pronunciation.

After you read my blog entry I hope that you are more motivated to learn English, maybe you will get better grades in your English lessons :)

New Semester - New Look!

I know, I know, this doesn't look like the old Enns Valley English.  Change is good!  The old address will still get you here.  And nothing has been erased - you can still find all the posts you've grown up with.

I'm still trying to work the bugs out and I need your help!  Leave a message in the comments if you see something that needs to be changed, or if you have suggestions to make the blog better!

Thanks!

10C - In-Class, Thursday, February 15

Get in groups of 2 or 3.  You are working on talking points for Matura. In your group, you will come up with the important talking points for each subpoint.  Each group should keep a list that you can type up and upload to Tausch. At the end of today's lesson, the class should have a good basis for each topic.  Beginning over break, you can start adding your own examples and details to the topics for Matura.

All Speaking is Storytelling

Tell a story about your Project week.  Talk for at least two minutes.  Don’t go over three.  Add your own details. Do not simply repeat w...
